Donkerhoek residents to apply for free basic services

11 October 2017

Kouga Municipality will be holding a special Equitable Shares drive next week to register residents from Donkerhoek at Humansdorp for free basic services.

Registration will take place on 18 and 19 October, from 8:30am to 3pm, at the Humansdorp Council Chambers on the corner of Main Road and Du Plessis Street.

Kouga Acting Mayor Brenton Williams said the municipality was busy formalising Donkerhoek, with electricity already having been installed to the area earlier this year.

Equitable shares are available to households with a total monthly income of R3 200 or less. The free basic services include:

  • Free 50kwh electricity plus basic charge,
  • Free 12kl water plus basic charge,
  • Free refuse removal, sewerage (based on 12kl water usage) and Environmental Management Fee (EMF), and
  • Free extra R85 000 on the value of your property for rates.

Applicants have to complete the application form personally and submit the following documents along with the application:

  • Valid ID document (husband and wife)
  • Proof of Income (pay slip, bank statement, pension card)
  • Sworn affidavit if unemployed
  • Proof of usufruct (if the owner is deceased, a letter of authority and death certificate).
