Kouga Municipality took hands with the Department of Environmental Affairs and the SPCA on Thursday to remove the egret population that was nesting in the trees at Hancke Estates in Da Gama Road, Jeffreys Bay. The birds had become a serious health hazard, with Hancke employees and nearby residents reporting illnesses related to the bird infestation. Kouga Executive Mayor Elza van Lingen said all due process was followed in obtaining permission for the removal. She thanked the SPCA and Environmental Affairs for their support.
