Validity of driving licences and vehicle permits extended

25 May 2020
The validity of vehicle-related permits and licences that expired during the first two months of lockdown will be extended with 90 days from June 1.
Kouga Community Services Portfolio Councillor Daniel Benson said the extension was announced by Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula last week and gazetted on 20 May.
The  extension will apply to all learner’s licences, driving licences, temporary driver’s licences, motor vehicle licence discs, temporary permits, roadworthy certificates and professional driving permits expiring from March 26 to May 31, 2020.
Benson said the Kouga Traffic Department was ready to open but was still waiting for the national Department of Transport to inspect the premises for Covid-19 compliance.
"Inspections have started elsewhere in the country, but Kouga has not yet received a date from the Department as to when they will be here.
"If the inspection does not take place this week, the Kouga Traffic Department will not be able to open on June 1, as per the national target date set by the Minister."
He said NaTIS, the online licensing and registration system, had also not yet been activated for bookings.
"We will, however, keep motorists updated."
