Kouga responds to petition

11 March 2015

Kouga Municipality has responded to the petition submitted by the Jeffreys Bay Residents Association in February 2015.

The municipality wishes to thank all residents who contributed to the compilation of the petition.

“We value what residents highlighted,” Municipal Manager Sidney Fadi said. “Certain matters are already being addressed while others have been captured in our Integrated Development Plan for funding consideration during budget processes.”

He gave residents the assurance that their input is never in vain.

“Funding is always dictated by competing needs and the available resources. Kouga has to look after the interests of nine towns and it is not possible to address all concerns immediately. This does not mean, however, that we have not listened or that efforts to achieve the desired outcomes are not ongoing.”

He said the municipality supported the call for a closer working relationship between residents and local government, not only to discuss problem areas but also to assist communities in understanding the mandate and processes to which municipalities must adhere.

“We thank the people of Kouga for their strides to ensure that Kouga is a better place for all its citizens.”
