Kouga Municipality, an equal opportunity employer which subscribes to the principle of affirmative action, awaits applications for appointment in the following vacancy:

 BUILDING INSPECTOR

 

REQUIREMENTS:                               

Grade 12;

NQF level 3 certificate;

Trade Tested Artisan in the Civil/Construction Industry;

Code EB driver’s licence;

Must be able to speak two of the official languages in Kouga (Afrikaans, English, and Xhosa).  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:                        

Coordinates task activities associated with the implementation of procedures and, monitors compliance with standards and specifications regarding new building, additions and renovations to existing structures;

Visiting specific work sites and conducting inspections to establish materials, the construction of the works and procedures are in accordance with approved design drawings specifications, statutory regulations (National Building Regulations and SABS codes and practice);

Undertaking specific inspections at various stages of construction to check tolerances etc and compares findings with stipulated specifications/ requirements;

Measuring and ensuring conformity to specifications of screen walls, opening and interior angles and arches and checking the use of protective materials and layers to prevent water penetration, cracks etc;

Evaluating and commenting on the adequacy of supporting structures, ventilation and water drainage systems;

Informing owner of issues of non-compliance/ problems on site and forwarding details of observation and findings to facilitate problem solving sequences prior to approval;

Issuing compliance notices to facilitate the demolition of illegal construction and/ or corrective measures necessary to address encroachments and aesthetics of building;

To ensure agreed standards, measures and specifications applicable to building construction works are complied with;

2 years’ experience.

 

SALARY:                                             R195 552.00 – R253 800.00

 

BENEFITS:                                            As per the standard conditions of service.
