Churchill failure could affect Kouga towns

24 July 2020

Residents in Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp and St Francis, as well as those who receive water directly from the Churchill bulk pipeline, are asked to use water extra sparingly.

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, which manages the Churchill dam, has announced that they are experiencing difficulties supplying water to certain storage reservoirs due to a failure at the Churchill water treatment works.

This has left the supply system with a deficit of 50Ml/day.

Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp, St Francis Bay and Cape St Francis are among the areas which receive water from the dam.

"Consumers are requested to use water sparingly and not to stockpile. This will accelerate the depletion of storage," Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality said in a statement.

No timeframe is available at this stage.
