Dance and braai this Heritage Day

22 September 2020

Kouga residents and businesses are invited to celebrate Heritage Day on Thursday by doing what many South Africans love doing most – dancing and braaiing.

Two events have been lined up for Jeffreys Bay on the day, courtesy of Jeffreys Bay Online, in conjunction with Kouga Municipality and the Fountains Mall.

A Jerusalema Dance-Off Challenge will take place at the Jeffreys Bay main beach amphitheatre in the morning, followed by a braai competition at the Fountains Mall in the afternoon.

Main organiser, Gerhardt Fouche, said the dance-off would kick off at 7:45am with a ceremonial flag hoisting and guard of honour by military veterans.

"Entrants will be able to compete in different categories - Business, Organisations, Schools and an Open section, divided into age groups 10 to 20, 20 to 40, 40 to 60 and 60 and above," he said.

"The entry fee for schools and organisations is R250 per group and for business R500 per group. There is no entry fee for the Open section."

Fouche said all proceeds would go to the St Francis Hospice, who will also be at the event.

“It has been a tough year, but we seem to be nearing the end of the COVID-19 storm,” he said. “The event will not only celebrate Heritage Day but will uplift people into a more positive spirit.”

He said there would be a COVID-19 check-point at the competition and that all participants would be required to wear face masks.

The braai competition at the Fountains Mall will start at 1pm. Any organisation or business wanting to participate can contact Gerhardt Fouche on 0824643099 or

"The dance-off is the first event of its kind to be held in Kouga, so please come and support and take part in the fun before heading up to the Fountains Mall for the braai," he said.
