A further 41 Kouga families have moved into brand new RDP houses.

The houses, which are part of the Pellsrus 220 RDP housing development in Jeffreys Bay, were handed over to the beneficiaries by Eastern Cape MEC for Human Settlements, Nonkqubela Pieters, and Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks on Monday.

Hendricks said this brought the total number of houses to be handed over at the Pellsrus development to 172, with 48 left to go.

"We are very grateful that the contractor, Ikhaya Construction, has been able to complete a further 41 houses despite the challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic," he said.

"This is not about giving away houses. It is about restoring the dignity of our people and we are proud to be partners in this project."

He said the beneficiaries had also received wheelie bins from the municipality to help keep their new homes and surroundings clean.

The Pellsrus 220 project is the first housing development under construction in Jeffreys Bay in more than ten years.

Hendricks thanked the East Cape Department of Human Settlements for their ongoing commitment towards providing quality housing for indigent families in the Kouga region.

“This has been a true collaborative effort and shows what we can do when everyone plays their part.”
