Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle will hold a public meeting at the Humansdorp Country Club on Friday, April 17.

Starting at 10am, the meeting will form part of the Premier’s Executive Council Outreach Programme to the Sarah Baartman District Municipality.

The theme of the Exco Outreach is: “Together moving the Eastern Cape forward.”

According to the Premier, the aim of the outreach is to give an opportunity to ordinary citizens to interact and raise concerns with the leadership of the province and municipality.

The Premier will start the Exco Outreach to the district on April 16 at the Blue Crane Municipality before moving on to Kouga on April 17. His MECs will also be leading visits to the other local municipalities in the district.

The Sarah Baartman District Municipality is the largest of the six district municipalities in the province and covers an area of 58 272km². However, it only houses 6,8% of the provinces’population and has the lowest average distribution of eight people per km² in the province.

The district consists of nine local municipalities, including Kouga, Camdeboo, Blue Crane, Ikwezi, Makana, Ndlambe, Sunday’s River Valley, Baviaanskloof and Koukamma.

Critical challenges facing the district include water losses, bulk infrastructure challenges, insufficient maintenance budgets, a lack of land for future development, poor road conditions.
