Kouga Municipality received a surfski this week in recognition of its progressive lifesaving programme.

The surfski was donated as a gift to the lifesaving crew by Con and Sandy Groenewald, beach lovers residing in Jeffreys Bay.

Con said to Community Services Portfolio Councillor Daniel Benson: "I wanted to express my thanks to you for what you did for the young men and women (lifeguards) and I have finally achieved the target.

"I'm sure that they will make use of the gift for assisting in rescues."

The surf ski comes comes equipped with life jackets.

The handover was done today (14 January), with Con handing over the donation to Kouga Community Services Portfolio Councillor, Daniel Benson, and Kouga Chief Fire Officer, Dewald Barnard.

Benson thanked the Groenewalds on behalf of the municipality.

"Thank you for the gesture and for recognising the fine work done by our lifeguards. We will most certainly make use of it!"
