Kouga Municipality celebrated Read Aloud Day by reading stories to learners at Victory Christian School, Pharos, Kings College and Jeffreys Bay Primary School.

MORE than 370 families have a warm meal thanks to a fundraising initiative by employees from Kouga Municipality. Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks, said 754 bottles filled with ingredients for soup were distributed to families in need at Mooi Uitsig in Humansdorp, as well as at surrounding areas and various soup kitchens on Sunday, July 18 in celebration of Mandela Day – exceeding the set target of 670 bottles.

A delegation from the Canadian government visited Jeffreys Bay at the end of May as a follow-up to the partnership agreement signed between Kouga Municipality and one of that country’s municipalities.

Building Green Inclusive Municipalities (BIGM) agreement signed between Kouga and Canadian municipality Prince Edward County. The deal is facilitated by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and the South African Local Government Association (SALGA).

The Opening of the Kouga Council was held on 28 February 2017 at the Newton Hall, Jeffreys Bay. The highlight of the programme was the delivery of the State of the Municipality Address by Executive Mayor Elza van Lingen.

Kouga Municipality successfully hosted this year’s national Blue Flag season launch at Dolphin Beach in Jeffreys Bay on 4 October, where 44 beaches, seven marinas and 11 sustainable tourism boats from around South Africa were awarded Blue Flag statuse. .
