Kouga Municipality approved the sponsorship of various non-profit organisations across the region for the 2022/ 2023 financial year at a Special Council Meeting held on Friday, November 11.

Funded under the grant-in-aid policy, the combined sponsorship is valued at R1 070 000.

“The six approved organisations have a longstanding working relationship with the municipality,” said Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks. “They continuously assist in the effective implementation of their mandate related to animal welfare, beach safety and response, and tourism development and destination marketing.”

The organisations to benefit are JBay Animal Rescue (R85 000), Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (R250 000), St Francis Animal Rescue (R85 000), National Sea Rescue Institute Station 37 (R250 000), Kouga Local Tourism Organisation (R300 000), and Kouga Business Forum (R100 000).

“The money is set to assist these organisations to achieve their respective goals, while the municipality as a whole benefits from the services rendered,” said Hendricks.

According to him, the sponsorship forms part of the Keep Kouga Caring narrative – one of seven narratives.
