KOUGA MUNICIPALITY SUPPORTS PELLSRUS CLINIC

The lack of space at the Pellsrus Clinic in Jeffreys Bay was partially solved last week when Kouga Speaker, Brenton Williams, handed over the keys to the house situated on the clinic premises to Sister Alla from the Pellsrus Clinic.

KOUGA Municipality has been proactive in supporting the Pellsrus Clinic in Jeffreys Bay after the Office of the Speaker became aware of the issues facing the dedicated medical staff at the clinic.

“Although public health is a provincial competency, the problems facing the clinic are vast and directly impact on all communities in Jeffreys Bay,” said Kouga Speaker, Brenton Williams.

“Long queues, a lack of capacity within the clinic, no psychiatric support and no office manager are just some of the issues Jeffreys Bay residents face when visiting the Pellsrus Clinic.”

The lack of space at the clinic was partially solved last week when Williams handed over the keys to the house situated on the clinic premises to Sister Alla from the Pellsrus Clinic.

“The Clinic Committee raised the issue of the house being occupied by a provincial government employee and that the premises were desperately required for a children’s clinic,” said Williams.

“We ensured that the house was vacated and that the keys were handed to the Pellsrus Clinic so that children can be helped separately from adults which will ensure more dignity for those utilising the clinic.”

“Together with other stakeholders, we are looking at ways we can support the clinic that is understaffed by possibly asking retired nurses to volunteer their services and for experienced office administrators to assist as well.”
