Kouga Municipality, in conjunction with the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), has rolled out a state-of-the-art computerised learner’s licence testing system at the driving licence testing centres in Humansdorp and Hankey.

Kouga Corporate Services Portfolio Councillor, Daniel Benson, said the project is about modernising the municipality’s licensing system.

“The computerised learner’s test is done in real time with the introduction of this modern technology,” said Benson. “The system has a testing software that has a bank of questions, which it draws on completely at random, so a learner can never predict which questions they are going to receive.

“As soon as a learner completes the final question on the fixed tablet with a touch screen application, they will receive their results. This not only cuts back on waiting time, but it also prevents any kind of possible corruption between the learner and the examiner.”

According to Benson, no books, sign maps or sketchbooks are involved. Applicants can download the study material – road rules, road signs, and vehicle controls – online at www.natis.gov.za for free.

Appointments for learner’s licence testing, resumed on 8 June 2022.06.07

To book a test, the following are needed:

  • Identification Document (ID)
  • Two ID photos
  • Proof of address
  • Application fee of R213.00

“We continue to serve our residents by ensuring that we invest in technology in our quest to not only accelerate service delivery, but also to transform Kouga into a smart city,” said Benson.
