More than 6 200 service requests resolved in one month
KOUGA – During April 2024, Kouga Municipality’s Call Centre successfully resolved 6 264 service requests and faults, out of a total of 6 675 submissions – a commendable resolution rate of 93.84%.
Road-related issues dominated the report, with 3 365 potholes repaired as part of the municipality’s ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure.
Following closely were sewerage-related concerns, totalling 1 741, which included servicing 1 282 septic tanks, clearing 313 blocked pipes, and resolving 146 pump station problems.
The month also saw the resolution of 510 water faults, encompassing repairs to 192 burst pipes, 182 leaking water meters, 68 general interruptions, and 68 routine maintenance tasks.
Additionally, 159 electrical faults resulting in power supply disruptions were addressed, along with the repair of 67 streetlights.
Kouga Executive Mayor, Hattingh Bornman, praised the municipality’s service delivery teams for their dedication, stating, “The statistics affirm that the municipality is effectively responding to and resolving service delivery requests.
“However, it is important to recognise that over 50% of the requests relate to the condition of our road infrastructure. That is why one of our key priorities for this year is to upgrade 150km of roads throughout the municipality.
“The tender for a R200 million long-term loan to rehabilitate the 150km of roads closed on 3 May 2024. Now in the evaluation stage, officials are carefully assessing proposals to select the best service provider. Public participation is up next, offering community members, stakeholders, and experts the chance to provide insights and recommendations. Public input will play a crucial role in shaping the project's trajectory, ensuring that it aligns with the needs and aspirations of the community.”
