PACK your camping gear and take the road to Jeffreys Bay this festive season – whether it is with your caravan hooked to your vehicle or a tent neatly rolled up in the boot.

The much-loved and once frequently visited Pellsrus Caravan Park in Jeffreys Bay is once again open to visitors from December 16 this year. This after being closed for almost three years.

Renovated at a cost of R300 000, the site, located close to the beach and within walking distance to the popular JBay Surf Village, now boasts a total of 40 camping sites. Visitors have the option of a stand with or without electricity.

Renovations included the upgrade of the ablution facilities, kitchen, and communal hall.

The upgrading of three single-room chalets and three double-room chalets are currently in progress. It is estimated that renovations will be completed by Easter next year.

Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks, said: “Kouga Municipality is incredibly proud of the work that has been done to reopen the Pellsrus Caravan Park to the community of Kouga and visitors from across the world.

“With the reopening of the park we reclaimed a treasured community space and took a major step forward in preserving the amazing amenities that this region has to offer.”

According to Hendricks, the revamped site offers visitors to the park the opportunity to stretch their legs, relax, and take in the sights, sounds and smells of the beautiful area from the comfort of their tent or caravan.

“We have worked hard to create a space that can be enjoyed by local residents and visitors,” he said.

The much-needed renovations followed after the caravan park was severely vandalised by the destitute housed at the site that served as a temporary homeless shelter during the COVID-19 pandemic in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus.

The shelter was permanently closed in June last year.
