MORE than 52 000 service faults and requests were resolved through Kouga Municipality’s call centre and Link app during the past 12 months.

Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks, said a total of 52 052 incidents had been attended to and resolved from March 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021 – almost 4 200 more than for the same period in 2019/ 20, despite the COVID-19 pandemic that severely hampered service delivery.

“It is encouraging to see that more and more residents are make use of these platforms to alert the municipality to matters that need attention in their wards,” said Hendricks.

According to him, a total of 17 120 potholes across the region were repaired. 

“This increase is largely due to the pothole repair programme, which was launched by the municipality in September 2018,” said Hendricks. “While we still have a long way to go when it comes to road repairs, it is heartening to see the progress.

"i would like to thank our road teams for their hard work and perseverance." 

The emptying of septic tanks made up the bulk service requests, withy 17 650 being attended to through the call centre and Link app. A total of 8 281 sewer blockages were also cleared during the same period.

Hendricks said the municipality had further escalated its war on leaks, with 1 709 burst water pipes and 1 416 leaking meters having been repaired from March 2020 to March 2021.

During the same period, more than 1 658 power interruptions were attended to and 617 faulty streetlights were fixed. 

“We would further like to thank residents for reporting illegal dumping,” said Hendricks. “A total of 161 illegal dumping sites were reported and cleaned the past 12 months.” 


The Kouga Call Centre is open seven days a week (from 07:30 to 19:00 on Monday to Friday and from 07:00 to 19:00 on Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays), and can be reached at 042 200 2200 (press option 5) or 042 291 0250 (after hours).
