Welcome to Kouga Municipality From the Desk of Kouga Executive Mayor, Alderman Horatio Hendricks

10 December 2022

AS the year 2022 draws to an end, it gives me great pleasure to welcome everyone on behalf of Council to Kouga for the festive season – the ideal holiday destination for the whole family.

December is a special time in Kouga, as we welcome family and friends from across the country to this beautiful region we call "home". We are truly blessed to live and work in such a perfect holiday spot and look forward to sharing all Kouga has to offer with our visitors this season.

A host of activities will be taking place to keep young and old entertained.

The municipality will be on full alert to address any service delivery problems, which may arise while additional security measures have also been put in place to help keep everyone safe.

It has been a year full of challenges, but also of great achievements – creating better lives for our communities.

Some highlights include the construction of two water purification plants and the connection of additional boreholes to help ensure water for all residents. We also tarred several gravel roads and connected a number of households to the electricity network.

I would like to thank everyone who contributed to our region moving forward this past year. We are humbled by the incredible support we have received from our staff, residents, and stakeholder groups in our drive to make Kouga the best-run municipality in the country.

Due to the prolonged drought, water supply levels across the region are dangerously low and we ask that everyone please uses water sparingly and only when absolutely necessary to help us avoid the taps from running dry.

We remind everyone that water restrictions are still in place and the use of hosepipes or the filling up of swimming pools with municipal water are strictly prohibited.

I would like to thank the thousands of people who will be working this festive season so that others can enjoy a safe and relaxing holiday. Safety and security teams – including the police, traffic officers, lifeguards, firefighters, and medical personnel – will be on full standby throughout the season.

Our prayer for each of our residents and visitors is that this will be a fun-filled and incident free festive season.

May it be a time to rest, reflect, and pay attention to what is most important in life. I hope that we will all find opportunities to feel gratitude even for the smallest of blessings. And I hope we will all feel an abundance of joy and love.

It is my wish that this holiday season becomes a time for all of us to find ways to bridge our differences and uplift those around us who might not be as fortunate – spreading the message of love and peace.

Wishing you a happy and blessed holiday with warm wishes for Christmas and the new year.

Kouga Executive Mayor

Alderman Horatio Hendricks
