KOUGA – Kouga Local Municipality is investing R2 million in a remote automated meter-reading system to improve electricity revenue collection, strengthen billing accuracy and reduce electricity losses.
The project, implemented by CIGICELL under Contract 48/2025, includes the supply and implementation of a remote automated meter-reading system, comprehensive meter audits and the installation of bulk meters. The three-year tender is funded internally and is currently in progress.
The system is intended to improve the accuracy and efficiency of electricity meter readings, allowing for remote monitoring and helping the municipality identify billing discrepancies and irregularities more effectively.
Meter audits and bulk meter installations will also assist in identifying technical and non-technical electricity losses, enabling the municipality to improve its understanding of consumption patterns and address potential revenue losses.
The project includes KwaNomzamo, with the broader objective of strengthening municipal revenue management and financial sustainability through more accurate electricity consumption data.
By improving metering and monitoring processes, Kouga Local Municipality aims to support more reliable billing, protect municipal revenue and strengthen its ability to maintain and invest in essential electricity infrastructure.
