HUMANSDORP - Kouga Local Municipality will commence with the construction of a new KwaNomzamo Sewer Pump Station and Rising Main in July 2026, an important infrastructure project aimed at supporting future residential development and improving bulk sewer capacity in the area.

Funded through the Upgrading of Informal Settlements Programme (UISP), the project represents an investment of R15 965 217.00 and is scheduled for completion by 30 March 2027.

The project entails the construction of a new bulk sewerage pump station and a 1.6km rising main extending from the Geelhout Pump Station to the existing KwaNomzamo Wastewater Treatment Works. The upgraded infrastructure will support the proposed housing development of approximately 1 250 erven, ensuring that future residents have access to reliable sanitation services.

Kouga Executive Mayor, Hattingh Bornman, said the project demonstrates the municipality’s commitment to providing infrastructure that enables sustainable development and improves the delivery of essential services.

“Investing in bulk infrastructure is critical to unlocking housing opportunities and ensuring that developments are supported by the necessary municipal services. This project will provide the sewer capacity required to accommodate future growth in KwaNomzamo,” said Bornman.

He added that proactive infrastructure planning is essential to building resilient communities.

“As our communities grow, we must ensure that our infrastructure grows with them. Projects such as the new KwaNomzamo Sewer Pump Station and Rising Main lay the foundation for sustainable development while improving the quality and reliability of basic services,” he said.
