Clubs to share Cup

THE finals of the 2014 Kouga Mayor’s Cup Ruby Tournament will no longer be replayed.

Finalists Jeffreys Bay United and the United Barbarians of Patensie have agreed to share the winner’s spoils in the spirit of true sportsmanship.

Kouga Executive Mayor Booi Koerat congratulated the clubs on their excellent performances throughout the tourney.

“While we are disappointed that we won’t see a rematch as the quality of rugby was outstanding, both clubs deserve to be the 2014 champions.”

The finals were played on March 29 at the Humansdorp Country Club. At full-time the score was 8-8. An additional 20 minutes were played but still no winner could be decided as the score stood at 11-11.

The clubs initially asked to replay the finals, however, after further consultation they agreed to share the cup. The prize-giving will take place on April 26.
