Council heads for Brazil to grow Kouga

A DELEGATION from the Kouga Council will jet off to Brazil this month to try and soften the blow of the worldwide economic recession on the Kouga region.

The visit follows a Council resolution to enter into a Twinning agreement with Ubatuba in the province of Sao Paulo.

Kouga executive mayor Robbie Dennis said the Twinning project was an opportunity for Council to support the efforts of the private sector to grow Kouga’s economy and create jobs.

He said the Kouga delegation would be meeting with key business figures and potential investors in Ubatuba to discuss, among other matters, urban renewal, rural development and tourism.

“I believe we can learn a lot from Ubatuba. For example, Ubatuba draws hundreds of thousands of international tourists each year. If we can tap into this market, it will do wonders for our tourism industry.

“In this time of economic hardship Council cannot simply sit back and wait for the private sector to create jobs. We also have a responsibility do all we can to grow the economy.”

The Twinning agreement was initiated by Ubatuba and, consequently, the Kouga Council will enjoy and all-expenses paid visit.

All Kouga will pay for is the air fare, S&Ts, travel insurance and yellow fever shots.
