Extra safety measures for the holiday

KOUGA Municipality will be implementing additional measures this December to keep residents and holiday-makers safe and secure.  

Roads:

·         Ten additional traffic officers have been appointed on a temporary basis for the season.

·          A zero tolerance campaign will be enforced to curb drinking and driving.

·          Speed measuring equipment has been beefed up to combat infringements of the law.

·         There will also be intensification of road blocks over the Christmas and New Year's Day period.

·         Traffic officers will assist with traffic control during events to ensure smoother and safer traffic flow.

Security:

·         Six additional security guards have been appointed on a temporary basis for the season.

·         The municipality has also, together with the SAPS, enlisted the services of ten police reservist to assist with patrols on our beaches, open spaces and neighbourhoods. The focus will be Jeffreys Bay, in particular the caravan parks.

·         There will also be four additional Law Enforcement officers at the Blue Flag beach to ensure people abide by the rules and that the standards of the Blue Flag are upheld.

Cleansing:

·         Refuse removal teams will be reinforced in the Jeffreys Bay and St Francis Bay areas, as waste normal triples or quadruples during this period in these areas. This we will do by taking staff and resources from other areas of Kouga, without compromising service delivery in those respective towns.

·         Grass will be cut at all towns' entrances and roadsides.

·         The municipality will also have teams on our beaches daily for cleansing and to look after the ablution facilities.
