Kouga to host two-day Career Expo

ONE thousand scholars are expected to attend the first Kouga Municipality Careers Expo in Humansdorp next week.
Kouga executive mayor Robbie Dennis said all high schools in the area have been invited to attend the Expo, which will take place on Thursday and Friday, July 23 and 24, at the Kouga Cultural Centre.
“The Expo is aimed mainly at matriculants who would like more information about study and career options available to them in both the public and private sectors,” he said.
The Kouga Municipality will be the main exhibitor on the Thursday while the focus will shift to tertiary institutions, the private sector and other government departments on the Friday.
“Thursday’s programme will be a wonderful opportunity for scholars to learn more about local government and the qualifications they need to secure work at a municipality.
“They will also learn more about the municipality’s study assistance programme,” said Dennis.
“On Friday the scope will broaden to include other government departments as well as the private sector. Various tertiary institutions will also be in attendance to introduce scholars to the courses they offer. There will also be information about bursaries.”
Dennis said a similar expo would be organised at a later stage for unemployed school leavers.
“This is just one way the municipality is trying to help Kouga’s young people get a head start in life,” he said. “Work is scarce and the job market is very competitive. That is why it is so important that our young people are well informed about the options available to them, so that they can make the right choices and build a bright future both for themselves and their communities.”
