A Christmas message from Kouga Executive Mayor Booi Koerat

Christmas is a special time best celebrated by showing that we care for one another.

There are many people who long to feel cared for. This is the perfect time to reach out to them - to those who have lost family members, to those who are unemployed and/or homeless, to orphans who find themselves alone following the death of their parents, to the elderly forced to spend Christmas at old aged homes, and to those who still live under the constant threat of abuse.

As the year draws to a close, it is also an opportunity to reflect on the year that has been. With both the local government elections having taken place and a new Council being inaugurated, 2011 has certainly been an eventful year for our municipality and the communities it serves.

Let us use this time for forgiveness, especially when it comes to the injustice that once reigned supreme.

A special word goes to our matriculants. Enjoy this well-earned break while you wait for your results. Remember always to live life to the full, knowing where you came from and what your destination is. 

A warm welcome to all the holiday-makers visiting our beautiful area this holiday season. It is a pleasure to have you here and we trust you will make the most of our hospitality.

Let us remember in our prayers everyone who will be involved in keeping residents and holiday-makers safe during the festive season.

Let us also do our part to avoid tragedy by not drinking and driving.
