New machines to keep region trim and tidy

New machines to keep region trim and tidy

THE Kouga Council’s efforts to keep the region clean and green has received a boost of more than R100 000.

Top-of-range grass-cutting equipment was delivered to the municipality by Turfmaster last week.

Valued at R107 000, the equipment consists of four Kudu lawnmowers and nine industrial Maruyama brush-cutters.

Kouga Executive Mayor Booi Koerat said this was the first of three planned equipment purchases for the grass-cutting teams of the municipality’s Cleansing and Parks unit.

“The equipment will be shared by the units at Jeffreys Bay, Humansdorp, St Francis Bay and the Gamtoos Valley, responsible for looking after Patensie, Hankey, Thornhill and Loerie,” he said.

The Mayor said the new equipment would enable the Cleansing and Parks teams to keep verges and public open spaces trim and tidy.

Kouga staff have already been trained to use the machines but Turfmaster will be giving the operators a refresher course this week.

“The focus of the refresher course will be on the maintenance of the machines,” the Mayor explained. “We want to ensure that the equipment is well looked after so that it will be of benefit to Kouga’s people for many years to come.”
