 YEARS of lobbying by the Kouga Council have finally paid off.

Construction of Jeffreys Bay’s first public high school and a new building for Sea Vista Primary in St Francis Bay will start in 2012 while the long-awaited renovation of Hankey Primary has also been given the go-ahead. 

Kouga Executive Mayor Booi Koerat said the new schools would be built on land donated by the municipality.

“The Kouga Council values education highly. We will do all in our power to ensure Kouga’s children receive the best possible education,” he said.

According to the Department of Education, the J’Bay high school will open on land off Koraal Street, C-Place, in 2014. Initially only grades eight, nine and ten will be accommodated, with the other grades to be introduced later.

The school will initially cater for academic studies but technical classes will also be introduced during the second phase.

The new building for Sea Vista Primary, currently situated on private land, will be built on the corner of Tarragona Avenue and St Francis Drive. It will includde two Grade R classrooms, 14 general classrooms, a computer block, dining hall and offices.

The renovations of Hankey Primary will include alterations to the existing buildings and the construction of new facilities such as a computer block and multipurpose hall. The electrical and water supply will be upgraded, and there will also be a massive make-over to the stormwater and soil drainage systems.
