Residents can have their say about development

KOUGA communities are encouraged to join the municipality over the next three weeks to start putting together development plans for their wards.

Kouga Executive Mayor Booi Koerat said the municipality would be hosting community-based planning sessions in all wards in November and December as part of the new Integrated Development Plan (IDP) cycle.

“An IDP is basically a super plan for an area and gives an overall framework for development,” the mayor explained. “It has a lifespan of five years that is linked directly to the term of office for local councillors.”

Kouga is currently in the final year of the IDP adopted by the previous council. The new IDP will come into effect in the next financial year and will run from 2012 to 2017. 

Community-based planning sessions were held in Wards 14, 15, 2 and 3 this week.

The schedule for the upcoming meetings are as follows, with sessions running from 10am to 4pm:

On Monday, November 28, Ward 8 will meet at the Newton Hall in Jeffreys Bay. On Tuesday Ward 11 will meet at the same venue.

On Wednesday, November 30, Ward 12 will meet at the Sea Vista hall in St Francis Bay. On Thursday, December 1, Ward 1 will meet at the Oyster Bay hall. The Ward 4 meeting will be held at the Kruisfontein Civic Centre on Friday, December 2.

The following Monday, December 5, Ward 5 will meet at the Kruisfontein Civic Centre. On December 6 the meeting for Ward 6 will be held at the KwaNomzamo hall.

On Wednesday, December 7, two sessions will be held for Ward 7 at the Thornhill Community Hall and the Loerieheuwel Community Hall. Ward 9 will meet at the Vusumzi Landu Hall, Hankey, on December 8.

Wards 10 and 13 will meet conclude the programme with a joint planning session on December 9 at the Dan Sandi Hall in Ramaphosa Village, Patensie.
