VACANCY

MANAGER: SOLID WASTE AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

REQUIREMENTS: Grade 12

B. degree in Environmental Management;

At least two (2) year’s relevant management experience;

Extensive knowledge of relevant environmental legislation;

Excellent negotiation, as well as oral and written communication skills;

Computer literacy (Excel & word);

Valid code EB driver’s license.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Improve Develop and Maintain Infrastructure to comply with Legislative Requirements and Kouga Local Municipality needs with regard to Waste Management;

Provide Effective Waste Collection and Management Services;

Develop and Maintain Waste Information System;

Conduct Community Awareness, Education and establish Communication Channel with Waste Generators;

Management of illegal Activities;

Minimize / Prevent Illegal Activities; and Improve removal of illegally Dumped Waste;

Develop and Maintain Medical Waste Stream Management Strategy;

Be responsible for Waste Minimization activities including waste recycling;

Advise council on methods of waste minimization that would enhance Local Economic Development and or Job creation;

Develop and maintain Garden Refuse Strategies;

Manage and maintain all the existing Landfills;

Ensure adherence to legislation with regard to issues of Waste Management;

Establish and ensure functionality of a Monitoring Committee in line with the Environment Conservation Act, 1989 (Act 73 of 1989);

Conduct and advise the Municipality with all the EIA processes as and when required;

Be responsible for Management of Staff, Budget; and Waste Management Machinery / assets;

Submit quarterly and Annual Audit reports to council and the relevant Sector Department (DEAT);

Manage underground water and monitoring as per legislation;

Advise council with regard to the development of By- laws relevant for Waste Management and Environmental Conservation;

POST LEVEL: 1

SALARY: R274 932.00 per annum

13th Bonus cheque;

24 Days leave per annum;

80 Days sick leave in a three year cycle.
