SENIOR LIFEGUARD
REQUIREMENTS:
- Qualification in Public Administration/Supervisory at NQF 5
- 2-3 years’ relevant experience;
- Surf Proficiency Award with competency certificate on the use of watercrafts;
- Code C1 Driver’s License
- Basic to Intermediate First Aid proficiency;
- Lifeguard Award and Quality Control;
- Appointment as Peace Officer;
- Competency to operate small water craft during emergency;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Excellent, report writing skills;
- Attention to detail;
- Must be able to speak, read and write in at least two of the official languages in Kouga Municipality (Afrikaans, English, and Xhosa).
SALARY: R 267,989.35 Per Annum
TASK: 9
DUTIES:
- Verifying that the appropriate number of lifeguards are on duty and that they are dressed in appropriate swimming gear for work activities and executing a 20-minute-high intense fitness training.
- Completing instructional documents, reports, vehicle log sheets, equipment condition reports and general building (Life-savers quarters) maintenance reports, etc.
- Taking out and monitoring work tools e.g. small watercrafts and inspecting their functionality status when going on duty.
- Educating beach goers on the various types of flags used and their purposes and ensuring that they swim in designated areas.
- Ensuring that beach visitors comply with the rules and regulations of the beach (no consumption of intoxicating substances, proper behavior etc.).
- Monitoring and controlling bathers by ensuring they stay within the designated swimming areas.
- Providing basic and intermediate first aid to beachgoers.
- Ensuring the safety of minors; conducting searches for parents and if unsuccessful in searches, handing over minors to Social Workers for further investigation and safety of minors.
- Planning, implementing and controlling the daily work/ actions of staff.
- Monitoring attendance/ conduct and output and addressing deviations from agreed performance indicators through meetings/ counseling and/ or other approved methods designed to improve and motivate personnel.
- Coordinating and complying with the required standards of fitness through weekly trainings for staff/ lifeguards.
- Providing information to the Lifeguards regarding weather conditions and placement of Red & Amber Flags in designated areas to indicate the opening of the beach; monitoring weather changes to re-position the flags at the appropriate place.
- Liaising with the Law Enforcement Agencies and taking necessary action to remove non-complying beach visitors.
- Addressing complaints, minor injuries, etc from the beach goers.
- Providing reports to the immediate supervisor on incidents/drownings, etc.
- Liaising with local clubs, regional/ district/ provincial/ national lifesaving bodies, and the NSRI.
- Ensuring the safety of minors; conducting searches for parents and if unsuccessful in searches, handing over minors to Social Workers for further investigation and safety of minors.
- Maintaining vigilance whilst scanning for potential dangers and safe areas in the aquatic environment in all weather conditions and for long hours.
- Swimming and performing rescue functions on high tide water’s/oceans.
- Running with efficiency to perform a rescue.
- Carrying equipment and pushing rescue vessels in and out of the water.
