Kouga Local Municipality is committed to the prescripts of the approved Employment Equity Plan and furthermore invites suitably qualified applicants to submit a detailed application for the following positions:
PETROL & DIESEL MECHANIC
REQUIREMENTS:
- Relevant NQF level 5 qualification and a Trade tested Mechanic Certificate;
- 3years relevant experience; on trucks, tractors and generators and yellow plant.
- Qualified welder must be able to do gas, Arc, CO2 and gas cutting.
- Excellent understanding of mechanics on Diesel vehicles;
- Excellent understanding of basic Hydraulics;
- Operating of mechanical handling equipment;
- Familiar with electrical equipment.
- Must have a driver's license
- Must be able to speak, read and write in at least two of the official languages in Kouga Municipality (Afrikaans, English, and Xhosa).
SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
Required to work in all weather conditions;
Required to work outside normal working hours, be on standby at intervals, called upon during emergencies and planned overtime.
SALARY: R 339 257.25 - R 440 359.69 Per Annum

DUTIES
- Coordinates and controls the set-up, work in progress and completion of specialized tasks activities associated with the
mechanical maintenance and repair of plant, equipment and machinery, including, monitoring and correcting the productivity and performance outputs of support personnel and, attending to routine/ general administrative recording requirements contributing to the accomplishment of departmental objectives.
- Communicating with the immediate supervisor and establishing material and resources necessary for specific works orders.
- Interacting with the Stores and checking allocated components and materials against job cards prior to commencing with loading.
- Checking the status of machinery, equipment/ plant and communicating any malfunction to the immediate supervisor.
- Attending to the repairs, maintenance and installations of mechanical components e.g. pipes, valves, fittings, etc.
- Monitoring mechanical components and devices and/ or replacing defective parts.
- Diagnosing faults through the application of visual and other related instrumentation inspection and investigation procedures.
- Removing and replacing defective parts with re-conditioned or new spares.
- Coordinating the cleaning and removing of blockages or other forms of debris from inlets/ outlets restricting flow of fluid/ lubricants to movable parts and/ or replacing broken/ defective pipes.
- Checking the functionality of replacement parts and executing the necessary adjustment and setting sequences.
- Inspecting works prior to commissioning and communicating with the immediate supervisor with regards to tests, adjustments and functionality of the vehicles/plants/equipment.
- Establishing and providing information on options/ alternative methods to address problems and prevent reoccurrence and assessing the extent/ complexity of the repair/ maintenance processes for the purpose of determining resource requirements.
- Interacting and checking allocated components and materials against job cards prior to commencing and/or communicating the need for material and plant requirements in accordance with work sequence.
