Kouga Municipality is confronting a dire shortage of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) ambulances, which poses a significant risk to residents who rely on public healthcare. Kouga Executive Mayor, Hattingh Bornman, said despite healthcare access being a fundamental human right enshrined in the Constitution, the current state of EMS in Kouga falls far short of the recommended standard.

This cutting-edge initiative leverages advanced drone technology to improve situational awareness, secure critical infrastructure, and safeguard the well-being of residents. This innovation cements Kouga’s reputation as a trailblazer in public safety, complementing previous achievements like the panic application with video functionality for residents, body cameras for officers, and the establishment of the Incident Command Centre (ICC). The drone-led safety initiative sets a new national benchmark for integrating technology into emergency services.
The age-old saying that "many hands make light work" proved true during a recent clean-up initiative at the Humansdorp Town Cemetery, spearheaded by Kouga Local Municipality in collaboration with various stakeholders. The Humansdorp Town Cemetery, the primary operational burial ground for the area, spans an impressive 60 square meters and serves the needs of residents from Wards 1, 4, 5, 6, and 15. Despite its significance, the cemetery has faced various challenges, including vandalism.
